Win the Chance to Run the Nike+ Human Race 10K Twice on Two Continents

Nike is partnering with Air New Zealand to fly five runners and their guests to Australia to run the race in Melbourne at 9 a.m. on Aug 31, then fly back to the U.S, across the International Date Line, to run the race in Los Angeles at 8:31:08 p.m.

The Nike+ Human Race, which celebrates runners and their sport, will be the world’s largest one-day running event, taking place on Aug. 31 in 25 cities around the world. Participants will enjoy an exclusive musical performance by some of today’s top artists in each of the designated race cities.

The five sweepstakes winners will enjoy concerts by Hilltop Hoods and Faker in Melboure and Kanye West in Los Angeles. Four seats will be awarded to Nike+ members on www.nikeplus.com, and the fifth seat will go to a winner who signed up at one of Nike’s retail stores across the U.S. The end date for the sweepstakes is Aug. 15.

There is still room to register for the U.S. races in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. Artists confirmed to perform include the band All-American Rejects in New York, Fall Out Boy in Chicago and Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals in Austin.

In London, runners will hear the American musician Moby in the city’s famed Wembley Stadium. Kelly Rowland will perform in Paris.

Runners outside of the 25 cities can join the Nike+ Human Race by logging on to the above Web site. That way, every city and every road can become a race-day course.

“We think it’s pretty phenomenal that our crew members operating the flight are running the race after working a 12-hour flight,” says Roger Poulton, Air New Zealand’s vice president for the Americas.

The race is also an opportunity to support the three official charitable partners: The Lance Armstrong Foundation, uniting people in the fight against cancer; WWF, the global conservation organization addressing the causes and impacts of climate change; and the UN refugee agency’s ninemillion.org campaign, bringing sport and education to refugee youth. Money will be raised via givebacks from registration fees, a percentage of Nike+ Human Race T-shirt sales and a donation of $1 million from Nike.

Are you aware that the trade magazine industry is reeling from the sight of your
Nike-sponsored cover? Is this the latest example of an editorial team conceding
the one thing that makes a magazine worth reading -- journalistic integrity?
I've now seen two write-ups on your Nike cover.

How could you allow this to
happen to your brand? Was it worth it?
