Time is running out to register for the eighth annual Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon, presented by SunTrust, before the entry fee increases. Runners and walkers planning to participate in Virginia Beach’s premier running event on August 31, 2008 are encouraged to register by May 15 for the $90 entry fee. After May 15, the entry fee increases to $105 until the event is sold out. The half marathon is limited to 20,000 entries.

Join the Challenged Athletes Foundation on June 18 for an evening of inspiration at the Heroes, Heart and Hope Gala at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, where professional athletes and other notables will raise money for specialized equipment, coaching and training that gets athletes with physical challenges back in the game—and back into life.

Triathletes in the Northeast have reason to celebrate with the addition of a brand new Ironman 70.3 event scheduled for July 13 in and around Providence, Rhode Island.

The word “athlete” seems to take on a new definition when you’re talking about ultramarathoners. Dean Karnazes rose to prominence in 2006 by running 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 consecutive days.  This year, he is attempting to complete the world’s five major desert foot races in a single calendar year.

On June 28, official Spinning facilities across the country will simultaneously conduct four consecutive one-hour classes with the goal of raising $1 million to benefit a trio of charities. The event, dubbed Spinning Nation, is the first-ever nationwide Spinning fundraising event.

New Zealand’s Michael Aish ran to his first career marathon victory Sunday at the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon in a time of 2 hours, 13 minutes 20 seconds. Returning women’s champion, Adenech Zekirios from Ethiopia, broke the course record of 2:31:33 in her repeat victory, finishing in 2:31:14. Also in the women’s race, seven American women qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Women’s Marathon.
